At La Storia Design Company, every space we shape and every object we curate begins with one thing: a story.
Our name, La Storia, holds a layered meaning that reflects not only our approach to design, but who we are at our core. In Italian, la storia means “the story.” In Greek, it translates to “history.” Together, these ideas form the foundation of our philosophy: that good design is never just about how something looks—it’s about what it means.
La Storia is co-founded by two women whose cultural roots are as rich as the design practice they’ve created. Maria Ripepi Diven brings her Italian heritage and decades of experience in architecture and interior design to the heart of the business. Tia Nitsopolous with a background in engineering and strong ties to her Greek upbringing, complements the team with operational insight and a shared passion for thoughtful, enduring design.
In many ways, the name La Storia is a tribute to their personal lineages—Italian and Greek, feminine and strong, design-focused and deeply grounded in family and craft. It’s a celebration of the stories passed down across generations: meals shared around the table, handmade heirlooms, carefully considered details, and the beauty of things that last.
This shared cultural lens shapes the La Storia experience. Whether it’s a custom interior, a curated home good, or a cabinetry installation, every detail is intentionally chosen, every finish rooted in story. Our clients aren’t just buying a product or hiring a service—they’re stepping into a narrative that begins with their own life and expands through design.
Our showroom and studio, located in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside neighborhood, reflect this philosophy. Part retail space, part creative studio, part design library, La Storia is a place where craft and storytelling meet. We carry a collection of furnishings, lighting, cabinetry, and accessories sourced from artisans, small-batch makers, and heritage brands. We believe in quality over quantity, form with function, and objects with soul.
