The Details of A Historic Home
There’s just something about the little details in a historic home that you can’t recreate in new construction. When we first walked into our 76-year-old colonial, it wasn’t the layout or the size that made me fall in love — it was the character. The parquet floors that have clearly seen decades of life, the solid brass door knockers, the original light fixtures, and all of the intricate trim work that you just don’t see much anymore. Every corner felt thoughtful, warm, and full of story.
Most of the details in our home are original, and the ones that aren’t were chosen to blend right in with the period of the house. The brass exterior lanterns, the decorative wallpapers, the finishes that feel like they’ve always belonged here — nothing feels forced or trendy. It’s a reminder that homes with history have a soul, and that the small details are what truly make a space special.
At La Storia, this is exactly how we love to design — layering old with new, honoring what already exists, and weaving a story into every space. Whether it’s incorporating vintage-inspired pieces, preserving original character, or thoughtfully adding modern elements that feel timeless, we believe the best homes are the ones that feel collected over time, not designed all at once.
