A night at Hotel Bardo Savannah

Travel inspires me. Whether near or far, it doesn’t really matter. A change of environment is something I crave. For the past several years, my husband and I have escaped the winter weather with our annual road trip to Florida. Snacks for the long stretches of highway driving (Twizzlers are a must), podcasts queued up, and sometimes an audiobook if we’re feeling ambitious. There’s something about those uninterrupted hours on the road that feels peaceful and connecting.

Our route is as much a part of the adventure as the destination. From sweeping mountain views to forested highways, the changing landscape is a constant reminder that we’re heading south. And before the palm trees appear, we always make our overnight stop in Savannah.

There’s something about Savannah that slows you down the moment you arrive. The air feels a little thicker — in the best possible way. The oak trees draped in Spanish moss, the cobblestone streets, the historic squares, every corner seems to want to tell a story.

As we pulled up to Hotel Bardo, I immediately knew I would love it. The 19th-century brick mansion blended into the historic streetscape while still making a quiet statement. Upon entering, you step into a living-room-inspired lobby that feels intimate rather than formal. I was instantly drawn to the courtyard. At night, it glows under a glass canopy, casting the most magical light. It feels whimsical and cinematic. And the swimming pool area transports you straight to the Mediterranean coast with its colourful palette.

At La Storia, we often talk about storytelling through interiors. Hotels like Bardo do this so well. Every corner feels intentional but not overdesigned. The Bardo balances its original Victorian architecture with contemporary design elements. It’s not overly formal or stuffy. It feels relaxed and effortlessly chic.

Even though our stay was short, I left feeling recharged. It’s not just about staying somewhere beautiful — it’s about observing how a space makes you feel. And this one…I’m already planning our return!
